Look up Michael Persinger and his "God Helmet" as well as other experiments and findings.

I've personally built a DIY version of "The Octopus" using an Arduino that I'm in the process of refining into a more compact/portable version that's just as good if not better than the rarely-in-stock prebuilt version.

MoT sells an updated portable version (which I haven't yet verified) but it would be cool to update Persinger's project and get the complete build into a repository or something.
